Kasra Farahani Biography

Kasra Farahani is an Iranian-born, Los Angeles-based production designer, director, and visual artist. Born on March 1, 1978, in Iran, Farahani's family fled the country following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, settling in Los Angeles when he was just a year old. His early interest in visual storytelling led him to study industrial design. This foundation would later inform his cinematic world-building.

Farahani began his career in the film industry as a concept artist and art director, contributing to major studio productions. His portfolio includes work on films such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 3:10 to Yuma, Alice in Wonderland, Thor, Captain Marvel, Birds of Prey, and Star Trek Into Darkness, where he notably designed the interior of the USS Vengeance.

He also served as a concept artist on projects like Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In 2013, Farahani made his directorial debut with the short film Noon, which 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment optioned within 24 hours of its release. He followed this with Concerning the Bodyguard, a short film that premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and was selected for the 2016 MoMA New Directors/New Films festival.

His first feature film, The Waiting, premiered at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival, and he later directed Tilt, which debuted at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. Farahani's most prominent work is as production designer for both Marvel Studios' Loki seasons on Disney+. His work on the first season earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination. In the second season, he expanded his creative contributions by ing the writers' room, writing, and directing the episode "1893," which required recreating the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.

Throughout his career, Farahani has collaborated with renowned filmmakers such as J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann, Tim Burton, James Cameron, and David Fincher.
